Training, training, training!
Our officers come to us already with previous experience and training. And to add to it, we have our officers train on handcuffing techniques, baton and mace, defensive tactics and advanced handgun.
One additional training regimen that is not certified, but must be stressed is situational training. Situations like confronting someone with a weapon, a belligerent or intoxicated person and even someone who is lost and needs help. These situations and more may seem too risky for some and too trivial for others. But for us, they are all important and they should all be taken seriously and dealt with using the utmost professionalism.
Verbal Judo
This is another unique training device that we are using with our officers to limit the use of physical force to gain compliance from individuals. This prevents the officers from having to use their hands or a baton or mace to get an individual to comply with the officers commands. Below is some information taken directly from the Verbal Judo website.
The course has precisely defined training goals that address concerns of importance, both to administration and to individual street officers:
SAFETY: Officers use words to prevent confrontations from becoming violent situations, reducing the potential injury to officers and citizens.
ENHANCED PROFESSIONALISM: Officers recognize the impact their words have on the public and use language appropriate to each encounter. Officers perform well before the audiences they encounter, thus creating a positive community attitude.
REDUCED VICARIOUS LIABILITY: Officers who handle citizen encounters skillfully and professionally are less likely to generate complaints and lawsuits. Officers trained in Verbal Judo will be able to describe their reasoning and explain their actions according to professional principles.
Verbal Judo, or Tactical Communication, enables officers to further preserve law and order while maintaining their own and the public's safety by using appropriate presence and words as force options.
Verbal Judo is the principle of Judo itself: using the energy of others to master situations. It contains a set of communication principles and tactics that enable the user to generate cooperation and gain voluntary compliance in others under stressful conditions, such as hostile suspects, upset or frightened victims, or any action which places the officer and the community at odds with each other.
Verbal Judo teaches a philosophy of how to look creatively at conflict, offering specific, powerful, and usable strategies to resolve tense situations. The presentation is geared primarily but not exclusively, to law enforcement situations. You will learn to respond to situations, rather than react to personal feelings, understanding how to deal with difficult people using conflict management tactics to defuse confrontational encounters.
Community Policing
This is an underscored aspect of private security. Our officers understand how important it is to build a relationship with an entire community. That is exactly what community policing is all about. In order to reduce and prevent crime the residents need to have an established relationship with law enforcement including any security personnel. Simply put, our officers are encouraged to be an approachable source of information to residents and employees. Letting the public know that we are there for them generates a feeling of community and safety.
On top of our training, customer service is a very important trait of our officers. Knowing how to effectively communicate with everyone around us is crucial to our daily success. Whether we are using verbal judo to de-escalate a situation or help someone who is lost, communication is KEY! Knowing that and admitting that upfront, gives us the upper hand on taking the first step in educating and preparing ourselves to combat any and every situation possible.
Quality Security is found in Quality Security Officers! Our officers are not bodies in uniforms. Their experience and training allow them to enforce all laws and regulations on any property. We ask our officers to use the minimum force necessary to gain compliance from any unwilling person. Words, putting hands on, batons, mace or our weapon, we only use what force we have to. Real security is found in the officers that know how to enforce the security, not the management of the security company.
